Company: Mayor Jamie D. Watts

What sparked our interest:

Moving from Chicago to a small town, we didn’t know what to expect. We came to expect that our elected officials would be horrific when communicating for public events, public safety, or even proactive measures to enhance the community.

When we moved to Welaka, we figured all public officials were the same. However, we have been proven WRONG.

Meet Mayor Jamie D. Watts, who has captured our attention. He successfully navigated our small town through two hurricanes, which included floods due to rising river waters, PLUS a Halloween Golf Cart Parade.

What we love:

A few years ago, where would you look to get information about what was happening during a time of crisis or even celebration in your community/city/state/country that was trustworthy? The answer is the news channel or the Newspaper.

But now, social media is the go-to place to access this information.

And with so many people sharing content constantly, it’s more important than ever that your communication is as efficient and effective as possible to make an impact. This means being clear, concise, and accurate in your information, which Mayor Jamie D. Watts is doing amazingly!

He’s communicating nonstop during the Hurricanes and rising tides, proactively giving us the information we need. He ensures we know what’s going on by sharing photos and videos and captioning them precisely, so we know what to expect, what steps are being taken, and how we can stay safe.

Bravo for such fantastic communication skills!

The 3 takeaways you should be doing today:

  1. In today’s digital world, social media is an essential tool for communication; use it wisely.
  2. Providing your audience with details and tips related to your field will make them look at you as a reliable source of information.
  3. Get involved with your community.
