It's imperative to stand out in the inbox. Consumers are flooded with emails daily and if you are spammy, annoying, overwhelming or unclear you will have a better chance of the consumer clicking to unsubscribe than to purchase your product or visit your website.

In fact, more than 50% of U.S. respondents check their personal email account more than 10 times a day, and it is by far their preferred way to receive updates from brands (Campaign Monitor) Important: This statistic doesn't mean you should be emailing 10 times a day!

Email Marketing should:

  • Have an interesting subject line
  • Be relevant
  • Look clean and be mobile-friendly
  • Contain clear and concise messaging
  • Remain authentic to the brand voice
  • Have an action associated (not just be informative)
  • Provide a means to unsubscribe and follow all CAN-SPAM rules
  • Not be overused (only a few times a week at most will provide the best engagement)
  • Only go to those people who have opted into your list! (don't buy a list)
